Renewable Energy

PV West Raynham. 50 MW

United Kingdom

Project description

The plant, with an approximate capacity of 50 MW, was, at the time of its construction, the largest operational photovoltaic plant in the United Kingdom.

The plant, with an approximate capacity of 50 MW, was, at the time of its construction, the largest operational photovoltaic plant in the United Kingdom. Built on a former Royal Air Force airbase, the project required a bomb disposal team to work ahead of surveyors and piling equipment to safely remove any ordnance discovered during construction. The challenging ground conditions, particularly the muddy terrain, required specific procedures and equipment to maintain the planned installation schedule.

A total of 196,627 photovoltaic modules were installed at the solar plant. The project can supply clean energy to up to 14,000 homes per year in the United Kingdom, and is eligible to receive 1.4 ROCs (Renewables Obligation Certificates) per MWh.
